"The mind of this country, taught to aim at low objects, eats upon itself."

– Ralph Waldo Emerson

The term “dumbing down” was a secret code used by film writers in the 1930s to revise scripts to appeal to viewers of lower intelligence. And for the last few decades, this phrase reflects a painful reality; today's Americans are in serious intellectual trouble. They’re in danger of losing all cultural and political capital because of illogical rationalism, diminished civic education, false idealism and lowered expectations.

The manner in which political, civic and economic ignorance contributes to grave national problems is the most contagious, self-inflicted disease our republic faces today. It is the most destructive of all epidemics since its only inoculation is economic and civic education.

Plato once said, “To plot the future, one must know the past.” Not too long ago, we were a nation highly resolved that a government of the people and for the people shall never perish. Love of our country and respect for its institutions and laws was a common denominator that kept us united in respect for our aberrations. The ethics of republicanism triumphed over our differing ideologies. Each time we swayed from the principles of our founding, Lady Liberty gave us a gentle shove, moving us back to the right of center. Our commitment to the tenants of our Constitution made us superior to any democracy.

“Ours is the only country deliberately founded on a good idea.”

– John Gunther

What happened to the distinguishing traits that made us a great nation? A great nation is one that is talking and listening to itself. When the conveyance of cogent knowledge is replaced with rumor, gossip, half truths, and non-truths, the mindset of fragile groups within a society is easily coerced. Mistruth was responsible for social and political convulsions that led to two Great Wars. It ushered in the McCarthy era, and it kept one-eighth of the earth's inhabitants in socialist bondage for seven decades. Mistruth has been used by rogue leaders to write or rewrite history since creation.

“Who controls the past controls the future. Who controls the present controls the past.”

– George Orwell

American intellectualism has suffered greatly in the past few decades as video and social media cultures have replaced print culture. This disjunction is limiting formal education and our continuing education. Self-destruction of the press brought about the declination of newspaper readership. But the proliferation of electronic media has diminished our priceless historical and classical education. According to a study by the National Endowment for the Arts, reading today has the least influence on our intellectual maturity.

“The more that you read, the more things you will know.”

– Dr. Suess

What brought about this dumbing down of America? Since the sheer nature of man is survival and he must provide himself with the tools necessary to confront any threat to his existence, how can an entire country allow this to happen? Those who don’t read don’t know their history, nor have the tools for survival. The rise and fall of civilizations is chronicled within the pages of more books than we can digest in a lifetime. And there is one reoccurring theme that resonates in every edition: the under-educated, ill-informed, apathetic members of a society are most vulnerable and most easily enslaved.

“History is the sum total of the things that could have been avoided.”

– Konrad Adenauer

Vladimir Lenin told us, “Give me four years to teach the children and the seed I have sown will never be uprooted.” At one time, America reigned supreme as a world model by providing the best quality public education on the planet. But while most free nations have been adapting to technical, social and political evolution, we continue to allow Washington politics to dictate the curriculum for local education. With federally mandated progressive Common Core teaching in all public schools, we are socially and politically brainwashing generations of liberalist robotic citizens to do what they are told to do – not what they think. Public education is now education by the federal government.

Progressives have been mounting an assault on the American family for decades under the guise of education. Yet the Constitution explicitly forbids federal predominance in education via the 10th Amendment. Fear of losing federal dollars has coerced states to accept Common Core education criteria without a whimper. Educators must now teach federally approved civics and social studies, which shape family values that support liberal political ideology in the classrooms. Parental values have been hijacked by the long arm of federalism to facilitate a government-controlled state.

“The philosophy in the classroom today is now the philosophy of the government.”

– Norman Williams

This dismal outcome has long been in the making on many fronts. This experiment of engaging in social engineering with our youth has been a socialist avocation to homogenize entire societies for centuries. But it reared its ugly face for good under President Barack Obama. And now like a malignant cancer it will not go away. To advance the progressive docket, government must regulate all education. And this enables them to ration information for training docile, obedient, dependent new citizens. This is the lifeblood for their base. Each graduating class brings them closer to their brand of progressivism to inflict on America.

“The very concept of objective truth is fading out of the world.”

– George Orwell

During the Obama years, we witnessed a horrific assault on our intelligence when he and his hand-picked news gang kept America dumb and ill-informed. Obama spoon-feed us his personal views on everything, including societal events to divide our unity. This excited his base, which enhanced his image as a social equalizer. By dulling our brains, progressives controlled our nation with eight years of cryptic federalism. Obama’s opiate to control the masses by keeping them dumb haunts us today.

“The public will believe anything, so long as it is not founded on truth.”

– Edith Sitwell

The result of America’s dumbing down is scary. Since Donald Trump was elected, the media has convinced America that socialism is good and capitalism is bad. During Obama’s reign, our economy was on life support. When he socialized health care, America replaced his Congress. But American dumbness prevailed Election Day as they fired Trump’s Congress when our economy was growing faster than Jack’s bean stock. Unemployment is the lowest in decades, inflation is deflated, and the stock market is on steroids! No coach would remove a winning quarterback if they wanted to keep their job. Yet uninformed voters shot themselves in both feet.

“One man alone can be pretty dumb sometimes, but for real bona fide stupidity, there ain't nothin' can beat teamwork.”

– Edward Abbey

Dorothy Seese wrote, “Truth is often hard to swallow, so we rest in comfortable lies and delusions.” Because information is power, the last thing the left wants is an informed public. But because Americans have taken the bait, they are allowing the progressives to control the message from the classrooms to the polls. Our once intelligent, well-informed nation is allowing demagoguery to displace social responsibility and common sense at the ballot box. Too many voters now rely on others to do their thinking for them and the results speak for themselves. After decades of orchestrated designs to dumb down America, it looks like this election proved they finally succeeded.

“The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter.”

– Winston Churchill

We have allowed government to do too much of our thinking for so long it's getting more difficult each day to remove ourselves from under the constant roving eyeball of its surveillance and its security state. We’ve permitted them to replace our liberty and freedom with dependence. After decades of orchestrated designs to dumb down America, they have succeeded to diminish the capacity for many to work a yo-yo and chew gum at the same time.

“If you feel the government is being good to you, you must also believe in Santa Claus.”

– JK Adam

With the blink of an eye, Obama’s manufactured recovery has now turned into doom and gloom with warnings of a collapse under the free market policies of President Trump. America never bothered to look behind Obama’s teleprompter as they watched the housing market inflate like a balloon on steroids. Yet few questioned why interest rates on their savings went to sub-zero. The recovery was only a recovery for the housing market while the rest of the U.S. economy floundered in a recession we are only beginning to dig out of.

“Any formal attack on ignorance is bound to fail because the masses are always ready to defend their most precious possession; their ignorance.”

– Hendrik van Loon

Ignorance only accelerated on steroids during the Obama regime. Ignorance is a product of sub-par mediocrity, creating generations of young Americans who can neither read nor write, nor think for themselves in any critical manner.

According to a recent study by the U.S. Department of Education, 19 percent of U.S. high school graduates cannot read and 21 percent of adults read below the 5th grade level. Yet more tax dollars are funneled into the Department of Education than any sector except the Department of Defense. The discretionary budget for public Education as of 2015 was $68.6 billion. And most of those dollars were used to bankroll demands by teachers and unions to invest even more in the same failed programs. They love federally mandated programs like Common Core, because government develops their lesson plans for them and it's less work for them.

“How are parents who never received a decent education themselves to recognize that their children are not getting a decent education?”

– Thomas Sowell

With 43 out of our 50 united states eagerly submissive to Common Core, public education run by local communities is a thing of the past. The progressive agenda is to abolish all state-run school systems. The next step toward total public institutional socialization is to abandon the letter grade system of A through F and replace it with a pass or fail, one-size-fits-all criteria for grading. This will permit them to control all curriculum. Those who choose to run have found out they cannot hide.

Even those in our nation who home school, attend private schools, or live in the states that have not adopted Common Core are being impacted also because textbook companies have rushed to align their books with the dogma of the Common Core standards.

“In every state that has adopted Common Core teaching, the results prove they have abandoned common sense.”

– Joan Archer

During the last five decades, we have witnessed the continual dumbing down of America with an ever-increasing number of verbose, feel-good social plans. President Lyndon B. Johnson turned the progressive corner with his “Great Society” and administered the dismal blow to social upward mobility. For the last 50 years, people have bought into this dismal experiment in self-destruction and formed a willing underclass that’s homogenizing to a lowest common denominator of sub par mediocrity.

"As their politicians get dumber, they get used to them.”

– Alvin Berman

Another primary method progressives have used to dumb down America is through mass media. During the Obama years, we witnessed a horrifying assault on our free press when he and his hand-picked White House favorites reported news. Obama’s plan was to keep voters preoccupied with superficial garbage spoon-fed to them daily via television, internet, and print media. This machine effectively promoted a fabricated image of Obama that was a potent drug to dull the senses and brains of voters and gave him enormous control over the country for eight years. Obama’s formula is the new modern day opiate to control the masses by diverting the people’s attention from the real world.

“The public will believe anything, so long as it is not founded on truth.”

– Edith Sitwell

Americans are drowning in debt, suffering collateral damage from an overextended welfare system. We are living in a nation that can’t pay its bills and support its many social and benefit programs yet progressives are crying foul, because President Trump has said enough is enough. So many dumbed down Americans are squealing that we are mean and cruel because we can’t continue to support an endless stream of illegal immigrants who are taking jobs from them. They claim illegal immigrants are the victims of government tyranny and oppression.

"In a society governed passively by free markets and free elections, organized greed always defeats disorganized democracy."

– Matt Taibbi

If we continue to allow those we’ve commissioned to safeguard our society to dominate our ideas, we will be surrendering all power to them so we do not have the power to think for ourselves if we choose to. When we have relinquished all power to them, we will be controlling ourselves exactly the way they planned.

"As societies grow decadent, the language grows decadent, too. Words are used to disguise, not to illuminate, action: you liberate a city by destroying it. Words are to confuse, so that at election time people will solemnly vote against their own interests."

– Gore Vidal

Because of this fact that information is power, the last thing the elite wants is an informed, empowered public mobilizing any grassroots movement to oppose government tyranny.
