Lawmakers seeking to separate Chicago from Illinois ask Chicago mayor to fight corruption
A group of downstate Republican state lawmakers wants to meet with Chicago’s new mayor to talk about ending corruption in the Windy City that they said spreads across the state.
State Rep. Brad Halbrook said he’s not ending his bid to split Chicago from the rest of the state.
In a letter, the group said separation is the only option if efforts to root out corruption, reduce unfunded mandates and grow the economy are not addressed.
Future Farmers gather in Springfield this week
For the next three days, there will be hundreds of Future Farmers of America from all over the state in the capital city for the organization's annual convention.
The event will culminate with the selection of a new state board. That board will replace the first all-female board, which was elected last year.
