Republican Bill Yearta defeated fellow Republican Jim Quinn in a special runoff election Tuesday to replace former state Rep. Ed Rynders, R-Albany, in Georgia House District 152.

Yearta, a jeweler and the former mayor of Sylvester, received 3,419 votes, or 50.9 percent of the total, according to unofficial results provided by the Secretary of State's office.

Quinn, a journalist and the former mayor of Leesburg, received 3,302 votes, or 49.1 percent.

Citing health reasons, Rynders announced his retirement in September.

Yearta and Quinn advanced after a four-candidate special election last month. The runoff was required because no candidate received a majority of the votes in the November primary.

District 152 includes Lee, Sumter and Worth counties.
